Managing our Waste
Rethink
We have fundamentally redesigned every part of our business to naturally maximise our sustainability and provide the most luxurious stay for our guests. We continuously improve everything as a way of life.
Reduce
We have implemented state of the art heating, lighting and water systems to dramatically reduce our energy and water requirements. We buy locally produced products to reduce food-miles and freshly cook to order with any food waste being composted to eliminate landfill.
Reuse
We re-use everything possible, so that we do not cause the needless manufacturing and transportation of new products whilst sending the used items to recycling (energy and transportation required) or landfill.
Recycling
The few items that we cannot reuse, such as cardboard, cans, plastic, glass and tetrapaks, are sorted and locally collected to minimise transport emissions.
Reducing our Carbon Footprint
We have a state-of-the-art weather compensated gas fired heating system; We have a large solar panel to heat our hot water; We have a well insulated building to keep us lovely and warm in winter and cool during the summer without any air conditioning; All of our lighting is energy efficient and every appliance is at least "A" rated; Our staff walk or use public transport to get to work; We encourage all of our guests to travel on foot or by public transport.
Support our Local Community
We source products and services locally and responsibly; We share ideas and techniques with other local businesses to help us all to keep Devon sustainable; We run a community composting scheme to minimise landfill; We support the Devon Wildlife Trust to keep Devon beautiful.
